We have secured Dr Bruce Buckley from IAG Finance.

Bruce is a very senior meteorologist and climatologist with 42 years’ experience. He has been involved in IAG Reinsurance’s Natural Perils and Climate Change Research, including development of hail, tropical cyclone and flood models, as well as the significant weather reporting.

His key areas of interest include tropical cyclones, severe thunderstorms, including hail storms, mid latitude extreme weather systems and climate change issues. He has had prior experience working for the Bureau of Meteorology in various roles in Perth, Melbourne and Sydney, the United Nations Development Program and Austrade in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, as Chief Meteorologist for The Weather Channel and The Weather Company, as well as an environmental advisor for BHP.

He has been involved in climate change research with IAG, Woodside Energy and Rio Tinto. He has co-authored five books and has numerous peer-reviewed scientific publications. He is an Adjunct Professor at Curtin University and was Team Meteorologist for the Australian Sailing Team’s very successful London and Rio Olympics and Paralympics campaigns.

He will be presenting on climate change with focus on its impact on insurance – tending to concentrate on extreme events within WA and the South West of the state in particular.

The presentation should be of interest to our Members, Claims Handlers, Underwriters & Brokers. Members are also encouraged to bring Industry guests who would find the training session interesting and informative.
